For many younger visitors, one of the chief attractions are Thailand’s beach parties. Once the sun goes down, peaceful islands are transformed into wild displays of drinking and all around craziness. The Thais know how to party and will welcome visitors with open arms. So let your hair down, bust out the bikini, and bring along your friends to these 6 best party beaches in Thailand.

6. Koh Phi Phi

One of the oldest party spots in Thailand, older visitors returning to this spot may be overwhelmed by the amount of growth and development the island has seen. Tattoo parlors, ATMs, and all manner of shops dot the once undeveloped stretch of main beach. Despite the best efforts of some of these institutions, the island still remains a relatively genuine and fun place to kick back and enjoy life. Don’t be confused at first sight if everything looks peaceful – once the sun goes down, the party goes all night.

5. Koh Samui

Similar to Koh Phi Phi, Koh Samui has seen an explosion of growth in the tourist industry over the last 20 years. While many of the newest additions cater to families and wealthier travelers, there is still a plethora of cheap accommodation on the island. Koh Samui also offers some of the best infrastructure of all Thai islands, with relatively stable internet and safe roads. For travelers looking for a slightly less “off the road” type experience, Koh Samui is the place to be.

4. Phuket

Phuket is a destination for travelers looking for the wild experience of Bangkok nightlife while still being able to enjoy the beauty of Thailand’s beaches. Partiers tend to congregate around the main nightlight district of Bangla Road for all manner of wild festivities, including flaming 1 dollar shots and shows at many of the go-go bars.

3. Koh Chang

Koh Chang (also known as the “elephant island”) is a popular destination for travelers looking for a more relaxed party atmosphere. Rather than the pumping nightclubs of Phuket, Koh Chang is full of relaxed bars playing reggae music and travelers sitting cross legged while sharing stories and advice. Don’t be fooled though, the beaches here offer just as much of a social atmosphere as anywhere else!

2. Koh Tao

While famous for a destination for travelers looking to earn their scuba diver certification, Koh Tao still offers a concentrated area of nightlife perfect for relaxing after a day of diving. Have some drinks at one of the many beach bars along the strip and then end your night at one of the several clubs in the center of the island. Fun fact: Koh Tao used to operate as a prison colony for dangerous Thai criminals.

1. Koh Phangan

OK, we know, the full moon party has too many tourists, it can be dangerous, and may seem overwhelming for some visitors. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that the island and it’s famous once-a-month festival is one of the premier parties in the entire world. Thousands of backpackers flock to the island for an anything goes night of drinking, drugs, and dancing. We wouldn’t recommend Koh Phangan as a destination to get to know the true Thailand, but as a party beach, it’s top notch.
